ST. PAUL'S MISSION PARTNER
LIVING HOPE HIGH SCHOOL
BUNGOMA, KENYA

St. Paul's is a Mission Covenant Partner with Living Hope High School! St. Paul's has hosted Living Hope on many occasions during our Sunday Services, our Soul Food ministry and during special events held at our church over the past years.

This 60-student Christian school serves impoverished teens who have lost one or both parents due to AIDS. Many of these students are sponsored by members of the Potomac Highland churches. To what else can we, UMC members, attribute this outpouring other than the Holy Spirit? GOD IS AT WORK! The Lord has drawn us as a district into this wonderful project. He has put a personal concern on our hearts for the physical and spiritual nurturing of these Christ believing young people.

One of our own members, beloved Marilyn Uhl who passed away in 2023l, retired from teaching in West Virginia and went to Kenya (unsponsored by any church) in 2009 to follow the Holy Spirit's lead and serve these destitute children.  Marilyn began with 24 orphans in a mud building with no electricity or running water. The school now has its own propert, a brick dormitory, a well and electricity.

The students tend their own garden, milk cows, and watch over a banana grove while competing interscholastically in girls and boys volleyball, and still give their attention to the school buildings and grounds. Consistently,100% of the students obtain a passing grade on their state achievement tests. The students and faculty members feel God's benevolent hand on each of them. The students pray and worship with an intensity and dedication that inspires each of the sponsors to increase their prayer life and dedication to follow Jesus Christ's example to feed the hungry and clothe the naked!

Mission Statement: As Christians, we are compelled to care for and help others. The Bible instructs us in James 1:27 to care for orphans in their troubles. The donors and sponsors of LIVING HOPE HIGH SCHOOL are committed to supporting the students of the school with our prayers, love, time, and money. By putting Jesus' word into practice, hope, a bright future, and a chance to witness their deep faith in Jesus Christ is given to these children. The mission of the donors and sponsors of the school is to empower the students through spiritual values, to be ever conscious of the human rights of all, to break the poverty cycle of AIDS, to lower child abuse and the incidence of child labor, and to prevent malnutrition and deadly diseases.
